Charles Darwin's Stay in Ilkley
Charles Darwin stayed in Ilkley in the autumn of 1859.
During this time Darwin received a review copy of "The Origin Species" from his publisher, the book itself being officially published on 24th November 1859.
The visit of Charles Darwin to Ilkley is commemorated by the town's Darwin Gardens and the Millennium Maze.
