Actually a reservoir which was originally built to feed the aborted Lancaster Canal project, Killington Lake lies adjacent to Killington Services just off the southbound (eastern) side of the M6 near the junction 37 exit for Sedbergh and the Howgill Fells. Today the lake is used for recreation, and there is a sailing club with a boathouse on the south west shore.
The cafeteria of Killington Services overlooks the lake, enjoying what must surely be one of the best views from any motorway service station in the country (as shown above).
