Casterton
Casterton is a small village which lies in the Lune Valley just to the north of Kirkby Lonsdale and overlooked by the slopes of Casterton Fell (an area well known for its caves and potholes).
The church at Casterton (pictured above left) was founded relatively recently (in 1831) by the Reverend William Carus Wilson, who also founded the Clergy Daughters' School in nearby Cowan Bridge. This boarding school was attended by the Bronte siblings Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Emily, and it is possible that the Reverend Wilson may have provided inspiration for the character of Mr Brocklehurst, the head of Lowood School in "Jane Eyre".
