Cycling in the Yorkshire Dales

the Tour de France peloton passing through Ilkley

With spectacular roads and cycle routes there are plenty of opportunities for road cycling and "off road" mountain biking in the Yorkshire Dales.

There is particular interest in cycling in the Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire at the moment, with the region having hosted the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014 (pictured above in Ilkley), followed by the first Tour de Yorkshire in 2015 (the latter having run each year since then as an annual event).

The region is also known for Le Petit Depart as well as the Etape du Dales (a very challenging intinerary which takes in some of the Tour de France route through the Yorkshire Dales). Besides this and other on road itineraries there are various mountain biking routes to be enjoyed in the area, and the Yorkshire Dales as well as the wider Yorkshire region makes for a popular choice as a cycling touring destination.
