The Tour de France Grand Départ comes to the Yorkshire Dales

The Grand Départ of the Tour de France took place in Yorkshire on the weekend of the 5th and the 6th July 2014.

On Saturday 5th July 2014 the Grand Départ route led from Leeds to Harrogate through the Yorkshire Dales via Ilkley, Skipton, Grassington, Kettlewell, Kidstones Pass, Aysgarth, Hawes, Buttertubs Pass, Reeth, Leyburn, Masham and Ripon - taking in the delights of Wharfedale, Bishopdale, Wensleydale and Swaledale along the way.

On Sunday 6th July 2014 the race began in York and again passed through part of the Yorkshire Dales region (this time riding between Harrogate and Silsden) before descending in to the Aire Valley and Bronte Country before travelling on to the northern reaches of the Peak District and South Yorkshire to end the second day in Sheffield.
