Otley, West Yorkshire Thomas Chippendale plaque

Famous as the birthplace of Thomas Chippendale (the English cabinet maker), Otley is a pleasant town situated at the foot of the Chevin and lying just downstream of Ilkley in Lower Wharfedale at the very southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

Although lying within easy reach of the cities of Leeds and Bradford in nearby Bronte Country, Otley is conveniently located for touring the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales, with the relatively little known Washburn Valley lying just to the north.

The magnificent stately home of Harewood House is also close nearby, as are the prominent landmarks of Almscliffe Crag and the Otley Chevin (which overlooks the town).
