Harewood House
The ancestral home of the Lascelles family and the Earl of Harewood, Harewood House is a magnificent stately home and estate at Harewood north of Leeds and south of Harrogate just off the A61 downstream of Otley at the very end of lower Wharfedale. Although lying to the edge of the main Yorkshire Dales area, the estate has a special connection with the dales in hosting a purpose built set for the filming of the popular T.V. soap "Emmerdale" (though please note that this part of the estate is not actually open to the public).
Harewood House itself is famous for its collection of antique furniture which was made by Thomas Chippendale (who was born in nearby Otley), and for its celebrated bird garden. Its grounds are also the location for the Yorkshire Planetarium.
