Thruscross Reservoir

Thruscross Reservoir, West End, in the Washburn Valley, Yorkshire Dales

Thruscross Reservoir is situated near the head of the Washburn Valley, beneath which the old village of West End was submerged when the valley was flooded on completion of the dam.

Local fokelore maintains that when the level of water is low an old church spire can be seen, its ghostly bell ringing out an eiree lament for the lost village.

This story would appear to be only a story though, for even during times of drought such as those experienced over the course of the summer of 2022 while some features (including stone walls and outbuildings) became exposed there was no sign of a church spire to be seen, nor indeed any knells from aa ghostly tolling bell.
