Gunnerside Gill

Gunnerside Gill is a deeply cut tributary valley of Swaledale, meeting the main dale at Gunnerside.

The area was once scene of intense lead mining activity and is well known for its "hushes" (artificial gullies scoured out by deliberately released rushes of water from dams prepared by the miners in their search for mineral veins at the surface).
